Springtime already? You’ve got to be pollen my leg!

It’s spring and the days are longer and warmer which means everything is blooming and the pollen is everywhere! Such a fun time of year for pet parents with sensitive furbabies. If your pup is anything like my Karma then they’re obsessively licking their paws and scratching right now. While we can’t always control the environment in which our pups walk and play in, we can provide them with the best tools to handle the seasonal flair ups. I have a few tools in my toolbox that may help you and your pup!

  • Adored Beast Pawsitive Immunity (colostrum alternative. Highest concentration of naturally sourced immunoglobulins available.)
  • Quercetin (natures benedryl) plant pigment, anti inflammatory properties
  • Bovine Colostrum (breastmilk from cows; boosts immune system, improves gut health, calms immune response)

I find that soaking Karmas paws in a solution of ½ water & ½ ACV(apple cider vinegar) w/the mother when he comes in from walks and the backyard helps soothe his irritated paws. I use an old litter pan and have him stand with 2 paws in it at a time while I give him treats. I blot the paws with a dry washcloth and cover the pan to use again for as long as the solution remains somewhat clean. I usually get a few days out of it. You can also soak a washcloth with the solution and blot the paws with that if your pup won’t stand still for long. ACV is great for yeasty dogs as well, you can blot any hotspots that aren’t open wounds to help soothe the inflammation.

I’ve also found that doing a sensitivity test every couple of years is very helpful and gives me some parameters to work within, especially in his diet. Once you get the diet worked out and the gut where it should be it becomes much easier to deal with the environmental ick.  Sensitivity tests are a much more economical option than an allergy test, but not as accurate. I use Glacier Peak Holistic sensitivity tests which address emotional imbalances, food sensitivities and environmental sensitivities as well. We’ve had great success using these tests in our shop!

I hope these suggestions provide your pup with some much needed re-leaf this spring and if you try or have tried any of these products I’d love to hear about your experience!
